Swimming for East
Just image; standing on the block as the stadium keeps the cheering to none. “Mr. Starter.” says the official standing in all white to your left. Your right ear than catches the voice of official number 2. “Swimmers take your mark...” BEEEP! From 0 – 100 the crowd cheers on for the favoring team. I’m down half the lane to prepare for a well thought-out flip turn. A strong push off the wall gives a good advantage while dolphin kicking. There is only one thing going through your mind and it is a reminder to Streeetch, streeeech. Hitting the pad stops the clock down to a hundredth of a second. Against
East high school swim team is like a family to me. Once inside I slap up every one of my dudes and familiar faces. The little posse of girls that come and watch nearly everyday are a different story, they all get the besitos. Hispanics...
Coach, ha ha ha, coach. Mike is not only the coach but someone to look up to as well as look after. He is there for anyone who needs it and I know for a fact many of the swimmers have come to him for advice. He is a down to earth individual who doesn’t mind teaching swimming even though one 50 free against me got him to vomit like a little girl. I may have lost the race but I still had my dignity in tacked.
This is my last year swimming for East. The experience of this sport makes me want to swim for college. A lot of work involved, but it’s so beneficial for your body and hale and hearty. Michael Phelps once quoted “I've always been fortunate in that I've been able to put myself in my own zone and relax. It comes naturally.I'm lucky to be
that way.” Its ironic because I do the exact same thing as Phelps. As well as using headphones to relax and blot out the sounds that create nerves.
